About Jaz

Dr. Jazmin Ghent is an award-winning international jazz saxophonist and educator. Over her brief career, she has become a decorated leader for the new generation of jazz, R&B, and gospel. Jazmin’s start in the jazz industry was the Show Your Talent competition aboard the Smooth Jazz Cruise (2014).

In 2019 she received the prestigious NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz
Album for her third studio album, “The Story of Jazz”. She was subsequently nominated for the award again in 2022 for her fourth album, “Forever Jaz”. In 2019, Jazmin was nominated for Smooth Jazz Network’s Best Artist of the Year and was voted 2017’s Best New Smooth Jazz Artist.

Jazmin has 6 top 5 Billboard singles, including Kickin’ It Up, Stride, Amends, Work Wit It, Heat and Compared to What. The songs remained on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Airplay Chart for 20+ weeks and received heavy rotation on major jazz stations including Sirius XM Watercolors. Her most successful hit, Kickin It Up, was #1 on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Airplay Chart. Jazmin has performed at some of the most prestigious festivals and venues such as The Dave Koz Cruise (Australia 2019 and Spain 2023), Brian Culbertson’s Napa Valley Jazz Getaway (2019 and 2023), Newport Beach Jazz Festival (2016 and 2021), Long Beach Jazz Festival, Mallorca Smooth Jazz Festival, Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival, Berks Jazz Festival, Catalina Island Jazztrax (2016, 2017, 2018, 2022), Punta Cana Jazz Festival, Cancun Jazz Festival, Low Country Jazz Festival, Seabreeze Jazz Festival, Lake Arbor Jazz Festival, Barbados Jazz Festival, Stockton Jazz Festival and the Capital Jazz Cruise to name a few.

According to Art Good of Catalina Island’s JazzTrax radio and festival (2016), “…unknown Jazmin Ghent was one of the BEST FINDS the festival has EVER uncovered. Obviously…She OUTSOLD ALL 30 stars of smooth Jazz in the JazzTrax Store, selling more CDs than anyone. She had stage presence, a show and she could play!”

Jazmin is also an accomplished music educator. She taught music to students in grades K-5 for five years in Lakeland, Florida. In 2020 Jazmin was invited by the US Embassy in Haiti to spend seven days presenting music workshops to adults and children. She worked with musicians, demonstrating the origin of jazz from standards to the jazz of today. The week culminated with Jazmin headlining the International Jazz Festival in Port Au Prince, Haiti. She was also selected to perform at the 2022 World EXPO in Dubai. Jazmin presented workshops to young musicians in Syracuse, New York; Long Island, New York; Elmira, New York; Lakeland, Florida; Miami, Florida and McKinney, Texas, where she was presented the Key to the City of McKinney.

While always striving for the pinnacle of success, Jazmin received a Bachelor’s Degree from Florida State University in Music Education, a Master’s Degree from Tennessee State University in Music Education, and a Ph.D. from the University of South Florida in Music Education. She has 4 CDs to date and is currently working on her 5th.
